Dr Ian Lam Chun-bun on how parents should handle children’s emotions before class resumption

In an interview with Sing Tao, Dr Ian Lam Chun-bun, School Managememt Committee member of the EdUHK Early Childhood Learning Centre, Associate Head and Associate Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education, discussed how parents should handle children’s worries or fears over the upcoming class resumption from a psychological perspective.

 
Dr Lam suggested that parents should “actively listen” to let their children know that they understand their feelings, and then state objective facts to balance their psychology and relieve their negative emotions.

Introducing “Take a SIP” video series on parenting

The Centre for Child and Family Science (CCFS) at the EdUHK will launch a 13-episode video series on parenting titled Take a SIP (short form for “Science Informed Parenting”), where 18 families were invited to try out some simple parenting techniques.

The parenting video series will be aired online on CCFS facebook, Instagram and YouTube (https://bit.ly/2Lq9lzb) starting today (15 May) to encourage parents to learn the easy-to-do basics and start with the small things in life to help children develop.

Through the video series, Dr Ian Lam Chun-bun, Co-director of CCFS and School Management Committee member of ECLC and Dr Eva Lau Yee-hung Associate Professor of the Department of Early Childhood Education, hope to share more evidenced-based parenting tips with those in need. Details:

【在家學STEM】教大幼教博士設計STEM活動 玩影子遊戲 網上虛擬旅行

 

 

香港教育大學幼兒教育學系推出以「『玩』出學習力」為主題的短片,為幼教老師和家長送上簡單有趣的家庭活動點子,打造孩子學習的新能力。

 

第一集短片的主題是「探索STEAM活動:家中趣味大發現」,本中心課程發展委員會胡馨允博士提供三個親子活動,如在家中與子女玩「影子遊戲」,從中了解光影概念,並完成STEM的學習目標,如「合作精神」、「創意思維」、「解決問題」及「探索世界」等。

School Experience Activities on Interview Day for Nursery, Lower K and Upper K Class

As the ECLC Open Day on the 26 October 2019 was cancelled due to the cancelation of the EdUHK Information day, there will be extra activities to experience our school life during the Interview Days on the 30 November 2019 and 7 December 2019. In order to express our gratitude for all of your support and for parents who have submitted the admissions applications to our Nursery, Lower K and Upper K classes to learn more about the Centre, parents and children are welcomed to enjoy our school experience activities after the interviews.

 

Activities will include information sessions, guided school tours, arts and crafts, sand play, coloring fun and free play, etc. Parents who decide to participate in the activities are strongly advised to bring along a set of spare clothes.

 

 

** For submission by mail, please refer to the Post Office Guide for the postage rates on the size of envelop to avoid unsuccessful delivery due to underpaid stamps. Please also be reminded that the deadline for in-person submission is 8 November 2019. **

Important Notice: Admissions Applications and ECLC Open Day 2019

  1. Admissions Applications

 

Applications for 2020/21 Admissions are now open. Parents may submit the application documents in person to our Centre during office hours or by mail to “Room G02-G05, G/F., Senior Staff Quarters, The Education University of Hong Kong, 10 Lo Ping Road, Tai Po, N. T., Hong Kong” with remarks of “Admissions Application” on the envelope. The postmarked date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application.

 

  • Deadline for admissions applications to Nursery, Lower KG and Upper KG class: 8 November 2019 (Friday)

 

  • Deadline for admissions applications to Crèche and Pre-nursery class: 13 December 2019 (Friday)

 

2. Postponement of Open Day

 

Due to the rescheduling of the Education University of Hong Kong Information Day, the ECLC Open Day scheduled for 26 October 2019 (Saturday) will be postponed. The details of which are yet to be confirmed. Please check our website and Facebook page for the latest arrangements.

Dr Chan Wai-ling on transition from kindergarten to primary school

  • Ohpama cited the findings of a survey conducted by Dr Chan Wai-ling, Assistant Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education, to talk about the expectations of students, parents and teachers on the transition from kindergarten to primary school.
  • According to Dr Chan Wai-ling’s survey, most of the young children can adapt well to the school life of Primary One. Most of P1 pupils can take care of themselves and show satisfactory social skills; and only a handful of P1 pupils have difficulties in their study. For details, please click here
